We celebrated our re-opening on September 7 with cake!
The Jorstad team celebrated with family and friends as we opened at our new location in downtown Olympia this September. We said goodbye to our warehouse studio at the end of July and moved our production dye studio to a private location to process big orders of beautiful hand-dyed yarns. Then we focused on our new public location, setting up our retail space, processing, shipping, and micro studio in a former interior design space at the corner of Plum Street and 7th Avenue.
Our new space features a stunning wall for display of our hand dyed yarns, a comfortable knitter’s lounge and work table with tons of light, and a tiny efficiency space for working on colorway development and small batch dyeing.
We rolled out the red carpet on September 7th, welcoming in new and return patrons who gave us a big hug and lots of love for the new space. Generous parking, great visibility and signage, lots of windows, and a cozy interior makes this location a big improvement for us.
The new space expands on the original idea of “studio” not just as our dye studio, but also a creative space for people to be inspired, share ideas, and achieve their vision for beautiful knitwear. It is important to us that we continue our work in colorway design on quality yarn and fiber, adding and expanding as a space for the support of knitwear pattern designers and knitters in a broad studio concept. Expanding hours into evenings three days a week encourages people to gather here as a crafting community to work on skills and projects in a supportive environment.
We continue our commitment to local northwest yarn and fiber
Our selection of yarns includes lace weight to bulky, artisan made by the Jorstad dyers. We’ve expanded the selection of needles and notions, spindles, and fiber for spinning. As the BK Collective expands the collection of patterns for our yarns we will display beautiful samples that show you the possibilities with artisan-dyed yarns. We hope to expand the collection soon with crochet designs as well as our knitting patterns.
Three opportunities for evening communal crafting!
Our new expanded hours find us open every day but Sunday:
Monday Tuesday 11 to 6
Wednesday Thursday Friday 11 to 8 pm
Saturday 11 to 5
Wednesdays are a great evening to drop in if you are a new knitter, a new mom, or new to town! Starting at 5 until 8 pm drop in and join a growing knitting and crochet community. You will get help if you are stuck or just want some good company. It’s okay to brown bag your dinner.
Thursdays is a good time for spinners to gather at the studio. We focus on all things fiber. From 5 to 8. We can get you re-started if you have a drop spindle and forgot what to do with it or need a tune up. There’s room for wheel spinners and knitters, too.
Fridays is when we let our hair down. Time to relax, unwind from the busy week, and get a start on the weekend. Bring your own beverage, your latest project, and a friend. While it is always 5 o’clock somewhere, we start at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time and close the place down at 8 pm. We like the idea of sipping, crafting, and enjoying whatever project is simple, easy, and do-able while we are chatting and being social.
We continue our partnership with the BK Collective
The BK Collective as a pattern company meets quarterly with Jorstad Creek at the studio to study color, design, and plan the pipeline of new patterns for the next season. Since all the designers are avid knitters or crocheters it is a fun time to talk about our craft and how it relates to outside influences like fashion. We are really excited about the first three new knitting patterns in Jorstad yarns, out and available on Ravelry.com right now. One of the patterns, “Drunken Geese Socks” made it to Ravelry’s Hot Right Now page! Find the entire BK Collective catalog at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/bk-collective/patterns.
Fall Classes Are Planned
Along with being a design studio and retail space there is room for small group classes and instruction. Our Fall schedule is in development right now. Our list of classes will be posted soon, along with additional news about spinning, knitting, crochet, and dye classes. People have asked us about our dye classes, and with the positive feedback from prior students and with home dyeing in mind we are planning to work on our lesson plans in order to roll out an expanded curricula for next Spring/Summer. So many wonderful things to come!
Keep track of the latest events, new patterns, and new colorways on social media – like us on Facebook at Jorstad Creek Yarns, Instagram or Twitter at Jorstad Creek!
Hi! I visited you at the Fiber Fusion in Monroe today….. I initiated a purchase of the Woodard Bay hat pattern, but then changed my mind….. I was charged for the pattern anyway and received a receipt……. I am willing to make the purchase but now need the pattern since I have paid for it….. could you e-mail it to me or send it via regular mail? Thank you!
Hi! We could still refund the transaction for you, or I’m happy to send you the pattern. Sorry there were problems with the refund. Let me know which way you prefer. Thank you, Kerry
Kerry
I could send her a free pattern through Ravelry, if that would be helpful.
